Getting Started

The dashboard is your starting point when you open the intranet. It shows a personalised collection of widgets, quick action buttons, and a greeting banner.

What you see when you first log in

  • Hero banner — shows the current date and a personalised greeting based on the time of day
  • Quick actions — a row of coloured shortcut buttons for frequently used apps like Dynamics 365, Fyle/Sage, SharePoint, and the staff directory. You can reorder or hide these
  • Widget grid — cards displaying live information such as your calendar, weather, recent files, company news, and more

Navigating the intranet

  • Use the sidebar on the left to move between pages — Dashboard, People, Company, Templates, and Help
  • On smaller screens, the sidebar collapses to icons — hover over them to see labels
  • Use the search bar in the header (or press Ctrl+K) to quickly find any page or WMS document
  • Use the theme toggle in the header to switch between light and dark mode
  • Your theme preference is saved and will follow you across devices

Signing in

The intranet uses your Westlink Microsoft 365 account. You are signed in automatically when you access the site from a company device. Some widgets (calendar, tasks, team presence) require you to grant permission the first time — a sign-in prompt will appear when needed.

Customising Your Dashboard

Your dashboard layout is fully customisable. Changes save automatically and sync across all your devices via your Microsoft 365 account.

Entering edit mode

  1. On the dashboard, look for the Customise button in the top-right corner of the widget area
  2. Click it to enter edit mode — the button turns blue and two extra buttons appear: Add widget and Reset
  3. Each widget card now shows editing controls in its header
  4. Click Done when you are finished

Adding widgets

  1. Enter edit mode and click Add widget
  2. A catalogue opens showing all available widgets grouped by category (Productivity, Communication, Data & Insights, Compliance)
  3. Click a widget to add it to your dashboard — it appears at the end of the grid
  4. Widgets already on your dashboard are not shown in the catalogue

Removing widgets

  1. Enter edit mode
  2. Click the X button on the widget you want to remove
  3. The widget disappears immediately — you can add it back later from the catalogue

Reordering widgets

There are two ways to reorder widgets while in edit mode:

  • Drag and drop — grab the dotted handle on the left side of a widget header, then drag it to a new position
  • Arrow buttons — use the up/down arrow buttons on each widget to shift it one position at a time (useful on touch screens or when using keyboard navigation)

Resizing widgets

Widgets can be resized in two dimensions while in edit mode:

  • Width — click the horizontal resize button to cycle through 1 column, 2 columns, or 3 columns (full width)
  • Height — click the vertical resize button to cycle through 1 row, 2 rows, 3 rows, or 4 rows
  • The grid has 3 columns on large screens, 2 on medium, and 1 on mobile — your sizing preferences adapt automatically

Quick actions bar

The coloured shortcut buttons below the hero banner can also be customised:

  • Click the pencil icon at the end of the quick actions row to enter edit mode
  • Drag the handles to reorder shortcuts, or click the X to hide ones you do not use
  • Click Done to save

Resetting to defaults

  1. Enter edit mode and click the Reset button
  2. This restores the original set of default widgets: Weather & Clock, Quote of the Day, Quick Links, Today's Calendar, Company News, and Recent Files
  3. Any custom sizing or ordering is removed

How syncing works

Your dashboard layout is saved in two places:

  • Locally in your browser — changes apply instantly
  • Remotely via your Microsoft 365 account — when you sign in on a different device, your layout is pulled from the cloud automatically

This means your widget choices, sizes, and order follow you between your desktop, laptop, and any other device where you access the intranet.

Dark Mode & Accessibility

Switching between light and dark mode

  • Click the sun/moon icon in the header bar to toggle between light and dark mode
  • If you have not set a preference, the intranet follows your operating system setting
  • Your choice is saved and synced across devices

Keyboard navigation

  • Press Tab to move between interactive elements
  • A visible focus ring highlights the current element
  • Use Enter or Space to activate buttons and links
  • When reordering widgets via keyboard, press Space to pick up a widget, use arrow keys to move it, then press Space again to drop it
  • Press Escape to cancel a drag

Reduced motion

If you have Reduce motion enabled in your operating system settings, all animations on the intranet are automatically turned off.

Troubleshooting

A widget shows "Sign in" or is blank

Widgets that connect to Microsoft 365 (calendar, tasks, team presence, recent files, planner) need your permission the first time. Click the sign-in prompt within the widget and approve access. If it still does not load, try refreshing the page.

My layout looks different on another device

Layout syncing requires you to be signed in to the intranet on both devices. If the sync has not come through, refresh the page on the new device. The latest saved layout always wins.

Widgets are not loading or show an error

  • Check your internet connection
  • Try a hard refresh: Ctrl + Shift + R
  • Clear your browser cache for the intranet site
  • If a single widget is broken, remove it and add it back

I accidentally removed all my widgets

Click Customise, then click Reset to restore the default widget set. Alternatively, click Add widget to pick the ones you want.

The page looks broken or unstyled

  • Ensure you are using a supported browser: Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome, or Firefox (latest versions)
  • Internet Explorer is not supported
  • Try disabling browser extensions that may interfere (ad blockers, dark mode extensions)

I cannot sign in to the intranet at all

  • The intranet is restricted to Westlink employees — you must use your @westlinklogistics.com account
  • Make sure MFA (multi-factor authentication) is set up on your account
  • If you are on a personal device, you may need to complete an additional sign-in step
  • Contact IT support if the problem persists

Ad blockers and privacy extensions

The intranet uses Microsoft 365 sign-in to connect to your calendar, tasks, files, and other services. Ad blockers and privacy extensions can block these authentication requests, causing widgets to fail silently or show as blank.

  • Add intranet.westlinklogistics.com to your ad blocker's allowlist
  • In Edge, go to Settings → Privacy → Tracking prevention and add the intranet URL as an exception
  • If you use uBlock Origin, Adblock Plus, or similar, disable it for this site
  • The intranet does not serve ads or use third-party trackers — the allowlist is only needed for Microsoft authentication

Quick actions are missing or in the wrong order

Click the pencil icon at the end of the quick actions row. From there you can reorder or restore hidden shortcuts. If you do not see the pencil icon, scroll the quick actions row to the right on mobile.
