Purpose

This policy establishes Westlink Logistics’ commitment to environmental protection, pollution prevention, and sustainable resource use. It provides the framework for setting environmental objectives and integrating environmental considerations into business operations and decision-making.

Scope

This policy applies to all Westlink Logistics operations, employees, contractors, subcontractors, and suppliers. It covers all activities, products, and services that interact with the environment across heavy haulage, project logistics, maritime services, workshop and depot activities, and office-based functions.

Organisational Context

Westlink Logistics operates heavy vehicles, cranes, and maritime vessels across diverse environments including urban, regional, remote, and coastal areas. Environmental aspects include fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions, hydraulic and fuel spill risk, noise from transport operations, waste generation from workshop and depot activities, and potential interaction with sensitive ecological and heritage sites.

The organisation operates under the Environmental Protection Act 1986 (WA), the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (Cth), and applicable licence conditions. Environmental management is integrated with quality and work health and safety management through the Westlink Management System (WMS), certified to ISO 14001, ISO 9001, and ISO 45001.

Policy Statement

Westlink Logistics is committed to:

Maintaining an Environmental Management System conforming to ISO 14001:2026 and all applicable environmental legislation, regulations, licence conditions, and codes of practice.
Protecting the environment, including prevention of pollution and minimisation of adverse environmental impacts arising from our operations, with particular attention to emissions, spills, noise, and land disturbance.
Setting measurable environmental objectives at relevant functions and levels, monitoring performance, and driving continual improvement through the management review process.
Using resources sustainably, including fuel, water, energy, and materials, by identifying opportunities to reduce consumption, improve efficiency, and adopt lower-impact alternatives where practicable.
Implementing and maintaining waste management practices that prioritise the waste hierarchy and ensure the lawful handling, storage, transport, and disposal of all waste streams including hazardous and regulated waste.
Reducing our carbon footprint through fleet modernisation, route optimisation, load consolidation, and consideration of alternative fuel technologies.
Identifying and managing environmental risks and opportunities through systematic assessment of environmental aspects and impacts, including those arising from abnormal conditions and reasonably foreseeable emergency situations.

Responsibilities

The Chief Executive Officer is accountable for this policy and for ensuring adequate resources are provided for the effective operation of the Environmental Management System.

The QHSE Manager is responsible for the implementation, maintenance, and continual improvement of the Environmental Management System, including management of the environmental aspects and impacts register, coordination of environmental monitoring, and reporting of environmental performance.

All managers and supervisors are responsible for implementing this policy within their areas of responsibility, ensuring environmental controls are applied, and reporting environmental incidents and spills.

All employees and contractors are responsible for performing work in an environmentally responsible manner, complying with environmental procedures and controls, and reporting any actual or potential environmental harm.

Review

This policy is reviewed annually as part of the management review cycle, or earlier where significant changes occur to the organisation’s environmental aspects, applicable legislation, or the scope of the WMS. This policy is communicated to all personnel and is available to interested parties on request.
